Rooted in Tradition

The Story Behind Our Rocking Chairs

At Foxhall Resort, life moves at a different pace. Here, we invite guests to pause, take a breath, and reconnect with what matters most: family, nature, and the beauty of the present moment. One of the simplest, yet most powerful expressions of that philosophy lives right on our front porch: the Brumby rocking chair.

Handcrafted just up the road in Marietta, Georgia, Brumby rockers have long been a symbol of Southern heritage, hospitality, and craftsmanship. Their classic, oversized design was first created in the late 1800s and quickly became a staple on porches throughout the South, a place to gather, to reflect, and to share stories with neighbors and loved ones.

“Front porch rockers have always been a symbol of Southern tradition; a place where stories are passed down, where time slows just enough to remember what really matters. That’s the spirit we’ve always tried to preserve at Foxhall.”

- Harrison Merrill Sr., Founder

At Foxhall, the tradition of front porch rocking isn’t just decorative, it’s intentional. Our Brumby chairs offer guests a moment of calm between adventures, a place to sip coffee at sunrise, or unwind after a day on the lake. They serve as quiet reminders to slow down, look out at the view, and appreciate the simple pleasures of the outdoors.

Just like Foxhall itself, these chairs are built to last. Crafted with care and meant to be passed down through generations, Brumby rockers reflect the same values we hold dear: honoring heritage, supporting local craftsmen, and creating a space where memories can unfold naturally.

There’s something uniquely grounding about a rocking chair. It invites reflection, connection, and comfort, all of which are core to the Foxhall experience. Whether you’re here for a weekend escape or a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, we hope that these chairs, and the feeling they evoke, stay with you long after your visit ends.

So pull up a seat, soak in the fresh air, and let the gentle rhythm of the rocker remind you what it feels like to truly slow down.
